Annotations for Shine Acoustic

Lyric: No one’s noticed our loneliness
Annotation:
Matt specifies that their parents didn’t noticed their loneliness (probably by the fact they were already grown up in a parenting perspective), unlike the times when they were kids, with every moment being watched by their mom or dad. This loneliness can also refer to the abandonment most children suffer from when growing up; times when parents start to look and say “you are already a grown up, you are good by yourself” like the person was 35 years old, not 18.

Lyric: You can’t cry now, there’s nothing to feel
Annotation:
Again, seems like he’s giving advice to this sibling of his, saying they cannot cry (normally, crying is not well received between adults, specially on family matters) now and that there’s nothing to feel at all, strongly suggesting that life gets emptier each year we grow older.

Lyric: When it creeps up on you
Annotation:
This line refers to the perceiving aspect invading their brain once they realise they are adults now and that those times will never, ever, come back. It creeps up anyone.

Lyric: Remember when you used to shine
And had no fear or sense of time
Annotation:
It’s fair to note that seems he’s talking to his younger/older brother or sister this entire verse. He asks them if they remember when they used to shine, without worries or enough knowledge to perceive the world. A cruel world. The sense of time can be related to how much care you have to take with your schedule when you become adult and, when you are a child, days are gone before you can tell because it didn’t matter at all.

Lyric: Someone’s sold all the truth you yearned
Annotation:
Here, Matt talks about how adulthood leds us to discover new concepts about things we were already certain that existed in the opposite way. The truth here isn’t the real truth, but the character’s. And now that he’s growing up, this truth is starting to torn itself apart.

Lyric: Who cares for the life we’ve earned?
Annotation:
This line refers directly to one person’s parents. Early on life, the only ones that care about the life a child will earn is their parents (or someone who fills this spot with no blood relation). This line also introduces us to the subject presented by vocalist Matt Bellamy on this entire song: growing up.

Lyric: Remember when you used to tease
And made us scream eternal joy
Annotation:
(In the dream life)

Lyric: I was the one
 Now I’m gone
 Take me back again
Annotation:
He wants to be taken back to reality.

Lyric: Please don’t break my ideals
And say what’s fake was always real
Annotation:
They’re hoping that isn’t what life’s like an they don’t know whats real anymore.

Lyric: I believed that you’d always be here
Cause once you promised a life with no fear
Annotation:
The protagonist has realised their dream isnt reality, their close one they’re referring to in this line is part of the dream.
